Jamie Carragher has offered insights into what Liverpool need to change following their defeat to Crystal Palace, which dealt a blow to their Premier League title hopes.
The Reds suffered a 1-0 loss at Anfield on Sunday, significantly denting their aspirations for the league title.
This defeat followed closely on the heels of a 3-0 loss to Atalanta in the Europa League, putting Liverpool’s European ambitions in jeopardy.
Jurgen Klopp’s side now sit third in the league table, trailing leaders Manchester City and second-placed Arsenal by two points.
Jamie Carragher, speaking as a pundit on Monday Night Football for Sky Sports, analyzed Liverpool’s recent performances.
“It has to change,” said Carragher on Sky Sports via Liverpool Echo.
“I think Liverpool’s xG in this run is around nine and they have scored two which is not great.
“For it to finish like that and go like that right now at the most pivotal of times is a huge problem for them.
“There is still time to fix that and get it back, but the nature of the players, it will always be a little bit like that in terms of the numbers we are looking at and the type of players that they are.
“But, that has to change very quickly if Liverpool are to get back in the title race.”
Although there are six league games and a Europa League second leg remaining, Liverpool’s hopes are not dashed.
Manchester City now lead the table with 73 points
Arsenal follow closely behind in second place with 71 points (on goal difference), while the Reds also sit on 71 points in third position.
All three teams have precisely six games remaining in the season, with a total of 18 points still available for each team to claim.
